With the recent news that the Norwegian government have declared iTunes to be illegal, and the Italian government have decreed that peer-to-peer downloads for personal use are legal it seems that the downloading of music seems to be veering towards the user once again. In particular the iTunes decision could have far reaching consequences should other countries take a similar stance. Basically, Norway have decided that because download from the iStore can only be played on an iPod and not on other mp3 players it is therefore anti-consumer. Lets face it, at the back of our minds we all think this anyway. And, if the way was cleared for iTunes to be used with other players I predict that iPod sales may go in a different direction than is currently the case!!
